Abbiamo lasciato la stupenda Angkor e la Cambogia per continuare il nostro viaggio in Indonesia, iniziando da Bali.

Come si sa, Bali è piuttosto turistica e per cercare di evitare le orde di turisti e surfisti, abbiamo cercato nella guida un’area un po’ più tranquilla – Canggu. Quando abbiamo detto al tassista dell’aeroporto che andavamo lì, lui in effetti ci ha detto che Canggu era una delle zone più tranquille, quindi io e Roberto ci siamo guardati compiaciuti per l’ottima scelta che avevamo fatto…

Beh, ci sono bastati pochi minuti per renderci conto che in realtà la zona non era tranquilla per niente! Per le trafficatissime strade non si vedevano altro che giovani turisti (principalmente australiani) e surfisti che riempivano i numerosissimi e costosissimi bar, locali e ristoranti, ragazzine ubriache che urlavano per strada guidando il motorino e scene della serie “guarda quanto sono figo”…

I 4-5 giorni che avevamo pensato di spendere a Bali si sono subito ridotti a due giorni, di cui uno in giro in motorino tra le super-mega-trafficatissime stradine dell’isola per raggiungere delle altre spiagge, anche quelle stracolme di turisti e per le quali abbiamo addirittura dovuto pagare l’ingresso. E ci siamo pure beccati una multa – o meglio, abbiamo corrotto il poliziotto come ci è stato richiesto anche poco velatamente…

Dopo una brevissima riunione di crisi, siamo scappati sapendo che l’Indonesia può offrire molto di più…


We left the wonderful Angkor and Cambodia to continue our trip in Indonesia, starting from Bali.

As you know, Bali is rather touristy and to try to avoid the hordes of tourists and surfers, we sought in the guide a somewhat quieter area – Canggu. When we told the airport taxi driver that we were there, he told us that Canggu was indeed one of the quieter areas, so Roberto and I nodded at each other, pleased for the good choice we had made…

Well, it took us just a few minutes to realize that in fact the area was not quiet at all! Through the busy roads there were nothing but young tourists (mainly Australians) and surfers who filled the many and very expensive bars, clubs and restaurants, drunken girls who yelled in the street while driving the scooter and people acting as if they were the coolest guys on earth…

The 4-5 days that we had initially thought of spending in Bali were reduced to two days, one of which going around the super-mega-busy narrow streets of the island to reach other beaches, which were also crowded with tourists and for which we even had to pay an entrance fee. And we got caught up by the police and had to pay a fine – or rather, we have corrupted the cop as pretty openly requested…

After a brief crisis meeting, we ran away knowing that Indonesia can offer a lot more than this…
