Di prima mattina abbiamo preso il bus che ci ha portato a nord-est del paese, nella regione di Ratanakiri. Lì abbiamo alloggiato da una famiglia locale che ci ha offerto una stanzetta molto spartana fatta di canne di bambù. La famiglia è stata molto ospitale e le sere le abbiamo passate con loro che hanno cucinato per noi piatti locali. Unico fatto un po’ negativo è stato che il giovane “padrone di casa” aveva problemi di alcool, ogni giorno lo passava con amici e fratelli ad ammazzarsi di birre. Ogni volta che poi parlava con noi esternava pensieri negativi sottolineando costantemente la mancanza di soldi anche per i bisogni più basilari. Un aspetto anche comprensibile da parte nostra dato che è una regione molto povera, ma che ha reso il nostro soggiorno un po’ pesante, visto che lui non parlava d’altro. A tratti stava letteralmente elemosinando, salvo poi comprarsi birre e sigarette a volontà.

I giorni li abbiamo passati in sella al motorino girando per laghi in crateri di vulcani e tante cascate remote, passando per bellissimi villaggi rurali.




Early in the morning we took the bus that took us to the north-east of the country, in the Ratanakiri region. There we stayed with a local family who offered us a very spartan little room made of bamboo canes. The family was very welcoming and we spent the evenings with them who cooked for us local dishes. The only negative bit was that the young “landlord” had alcohol problems, and spent his days with friends and brothers drinking loads of beer. Every time he spoke with us, he expressed his negative thoughts, constantly emphasizing the lack of money even for the most basic needs. It is also a comprehensible aspect as it is a very poor region, but it has made our stay a bit heavy since he did not talk about anything else. At times he was literally begging, though then buying mainly beers and cigarettes.

We spent the days riding the scooter to lakes in volcanoes craters and many remote waterfalls, passing through beautiful country villages.
